WHAT IS THE SIGNAL? /
The dcw production newsletter, rebuilt to match the brand.
Every month or two, The Signal will carry a mix of recent work, useful production and AV ideas, practical lessons, and the occasional reminder that dcw production is here when something needs to be built, fixed, recorded, streamed, taught, or figured out.
A REINTRODUCTION /
A new look for dcw production.
For more than 15 years, dcw production has lived somewhere in the overlap between video, live production, training, AV systems, and the practical problem-solving that usually connects all four.
The work changed over time. The old brand did not.
So this fall, I rebuilt it.
A NEW LOOK. THE SAME STANDARD. /
The goal was not to make dcw look bigger. It was to make it look more like itself.
Good production starts with understanding what needs to happen, then choosing the right tools and process to make it happen reliably.
That has always been the operating principle. The new identity simply makes it easier to see.
The site is cleaner and more deliberate. The visual system is built around signal flow, framing, control, and the kinds of technical decisions that sit behind good production without needing to become the star of it.
The same approach carries through the work: ask the right questions first, solve the actual problem, and make the result easy to use.
WHAT DCW DOES /
Different disciplines. The same problem-solving mindset.
01 / VIDEO PRODUCTION
Interviews, promotional content, event video, editing, and story-driven pieces built to communicate clearly rather than simply look expensive.
02 / LIVE PRODUCTION
Livestreaming, switching, cameras, audio, graphics, and technical coordination for events where reliability matters more than improvisation.
03 / TRAINING + eLEARNING
Instructional video, demonstrations, course content, and learning media designed around how people actually absorb and use information.
04 / AV SOLUTIONS
System planning, upgrades, troubleshooting, and practical recommendations for rooms where the technology needs to support the people using it.
FROM THE FIELD /
A system can work exactly as designed and still be wrong for the room.
I have been spending a lot of time lately looking at spaces where the AV system is not necessarily broken. The room around it has simply changed.
A stage gets extended. A space starts hosting different events. Streaming gets added. More people need to operate the room without technical help. Displays move. Cameras arrive. Connection points stay where they were because moving them would be inconvenient.
Eventually, people start blaming the equipment when the real problem is that the system is still solving yesterday's version of the room.
ONE THING WORTH REMEMBERING /
The room changes. The system should too.
When a space changes, the first instinct is often to ask which piece of equipment needs to be replaced.
That is sometimes the right answer. It just should not be the first question.
A SIMPLE CHECK /
If the room has changed significantly since the AV system was installed, walk through how people use the space today before deciding what equipment needs to change.
Look at speaker placement, camera sightlines, microphone locations, displays, control positions, floor boxes, and where presenters actually end up standing with their laptops.
Then ask a second question that gets overlooked surprisingly often: does the room still make sense when the person using it is not technical?
Sometimes that leads to a major upgrade. Sometimes it leads to moving one thing, rerouting another, and finally fixing the workaround everyone has quietly accepted for three years.
Either way, the useful question is not simply, “Does the system still work?”
It is, “Does it still work for the room we actually have?”

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON? /
If something is taking shape, this is a good time to talk.
If you have an event coming up, a video project in the queue, training that needs a better way to reach people, or an AV system that needs a fresh look, dcw production can help.
